Meet-a-Mojito
Hey! Tell us about yourself and a fun fact.
Hi there! This is Joan, Co-founder of Onsite.fun, a Barcelona-based startup for remote corporate teams to book curated team-building experiences from the top hosts in the world.
I've been working on the corporate and startup space before and while having an engineering background I consider myself more business-oriented. I'm a massive basketball and ski lover, passions that help me disconnect from the routine.
What motivated you to start your company?
Like many, once the pandemic hit different countries companies send their employees home without clear standards or protocols to enhance team culture remotely. I was also affected and sadly impacted too. I felt the burnout from working without a proper setup and team dynamics.
I know my managers were also buried with tons of work and those conditions took us all by surprise. That's why I decided to embark with the vision of helping companies and teams manage their culture better.
How do you acquire users and grow your company?
Since we started our project back in November we have grown at 4x multiples and it has all been due to HackerNews (we got lucky) and cold-call outreaching.
There are two approaches that we are focusing on. First is bottom-up, where team members recommend each other to get discounts until they reach a managerial position that sees the value of having a centralized platform. The second approach is top-down. We are developing a platform for managers to have more visibility on the budget allocations, analytics and permissions so they don't have to waste time with it.
This is a low-loyalty market, thus we need to provide additional value for heavy users. Selecting the best activities and creating a platform is our strategy at this point.
What is your future goal?
We want to help professionals focus on their work while we take care of their team experience. Searching, enquiring, booking, etc. are tasks that take too much time and effort. We want to simplify this by providing a set of experiences that will support teams' growth and camaraderie.
There are probably too many interesting angles to explore! We are currently focusing on the platform development for managers and rebundling activities in seasonal packages.
Anything our readers should know?
I want first to thank Felix for the opportunity to be in the Mojito's newsletter. I believe that there are many synergies in the space of remote tools and the future of work. Incredible founders are emerging with solutions to revolutionize the space and add solutions to the new settings.
If you believe there is something we should be tackling or just want to connect, find us both co-founder on Twitter. We are always open to talk: @joalavedra and @jamalavedra
